Assistant Estimator (Engineering)

Based in the Twin Cities, RJM Construction has more than 150 staff members and an annual construction volume of $256 million. We specialize in community, healthcare, corporate, and multifamily projects, serving clients throughout Minnesota and neighboring states. Our expertise includes general contracting, construction management, design-build, and preconstruction services. We currently have an opening for an Assistant Estimator. This is an in-office position, requiring contact with team members and contact with clients.
As Assistant Estimator you will support the development of accurate and competitive, profitable estimates that secure the work. Work with Estimators, Senior Estimators and Chief Estimator to provide quantity takeoffs, subcontractor follow up and engagement, management of vendor database and tracking of project cost history. Work with clients, subcontractors, and industry professional to build professional relationships to assist with Business Development. We are seeking a motivated individual looking to learn and grow with the RJM team.
ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES
• Estimate Start Up – Meet with the project team to determine what information needs to be gathered, such as ordering of plans and researching past relevant project costs.
• Quantity Takeoffs –Assist with quantity takeoffs for all project scope, review and share quantities with lead estimator for use developing the estimate.
• Estimate Work – assist estimators with Sage estimating software, developing posting sheet, bid day worksheets, basis of estimates, and value engineering worksheets.
• Information processing – manage invite to bid software to monitor subcontractor bid interest and communicate with subcontractors to answer questions and share appropriate bidding information and encourage subcontractor participation.
• Communication – constantly communicate with RJM team, subcontractors, and industry professionals, provide status updates to the project team on various estimating process items.
• Client Satisfaction – provide responsive and professional communication with subcontractors and industry professions, attend various industry events with subcontractors and clients to build professional networks
• Culture – work diligently with project team throughout estimating process, engage with other RJM team members during estimate work as well as engage with various RJM team events, regularly visit RJM jobsites to engage with active RJM projects and connect with RJM field team.
• Estimate Closeout – work with estimator through estimate closeout process including bid tabulations, subcontractor bid archiving, estimate handoff notes, productivity and cost tracking, etc.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS
Education:
BS Degree in Construction Management or related field. Experience may be substituted for degree.
Work Experience:
• 0-2 years of estimating or commercial construction management experience. Related field experience also qualifies
• Basic understanding on how to read plans and specifications and perform quantity surveys.
• Basic understanding of Construction Systems and CSI codes.
Demonstrated Technical Competencies to include:
• Microsoft – Excel, Word, and Outlook, Project
• Sage Estimating, On-Screen Takeoff or eTakeoff (software knowledge preferred, not required)
