The Sterile Processing Lead Technician is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the Sterile Processing Department, ensuring the proper decontamination, inspection, assembly, and sterilization of surgical instruments and medical equipment. This role involves leadership, monitoring and training of Sterile Processing Technicians, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards and hospital policies. Job Duties: Cleaning surgical instruments and medical devices using detergents, disinfectants, and specialized cleaning equipment.Inspecting instruments for damage or wear and tear. Monitoring workflow to maintain efficiency and timely processing of instruments and equipment.Inspect and test sterilization equipment for proper functioning and report any malfunctions.Follow safety procedures and manufacturers instructions when handling cleaning solutions, supplies and equipment.Operate equipment used in the sterile processing areas safely and according to the manufacturers instructions for use.Oversee the decontamination, assembly, sterilization processes, and storage to ensure compliance with industry standards (e.g., AAMI, AORN).Ensure proper inventory levels of instruments.Maintain accurate records of sterilization activities, instrument tracking, and maintenance logs.Develop and conduct training programs for new and existing staff on sterilization techniques, equipment uses, and department protocols.Stay updated with the latest industry standards and best practices and implement necessary changes in the department.Foster a culture of continuous improvement and professional development within the team.Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure compliance with infection control policies, OSHA regulations, and other relevant standards.Address any non-compliance issues and report to the manager.Collaborate with Infection Prevention and other healthcare staff to promote a safe and sterile environment.Serve as a liaison between the Sterile Processing Department and other hospital departments and coordinate instrument needs and resolve any issues.Communicate effectively with team members, management and other departments.Participate in department meetings and contribute to policy and procedure development.
