ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The College of Public Health (COPH) is part of USF Health, which includes the core colleges of Medicine, Nursing, Public Health, and Pharmacy, and the schools of Biomedical Sciences and Physical Therapy & Rehabilitation Sciences. The College of Public Health was founded in 1984 as the first college of public health in Florida. USF's College of Public Health is consistently ranked #1 in the state of Florida and has been ranked in the top 25 nationally for nearly 20 years.
POSITION SUMMARY:
The incumbent of this position focuses on the social and behavioral elements of infectious disease control and prevention (communicable and/or vector borne). As a ranked professorial faculty position at USF, the incumbent will have teaching, research, scholarship and service responsibilities. In addition, the incumbent will be expected to provide external competitive funding to cover at least 50% of annual salary and benefits beginning in their fourth year of employment.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Instructional Duties: 25% FTE
Teach graduate level courses related to infectious disease control and prevention affecting communities. Teach related courses and undergraduate courses where interests and needs align, collaborate in teaching with other College faculty,
participate in college-wide teaching initiatives, and advise graduate students at both master's and doctoral levels, including serving on thesis and dissertation committees.
Research/Scholarship Duties: 70% FTE
Conduct research related to infectious disease control and prevention affecting communities; apply for and obtain competitive extramural funding for research grants; disseminate scholarly achievements through peer-reviewed publications, presentations and active translation to the field. Collaborate with faculty across the College, USF Health and the University to develop translational research initiatives. Obtain and maintain extramural funding for research activities that covers at least 50% of annual salary after year three of appointment.
The creation, dissemination and translation of knowledge through collaborative such as HIV, malaria, arboviruses, or other infectious diseases related research. Work closely with the USF Health Virology Program to support a broad based interdisciplinary public health research program, as opportunities become available.
Service Duties: 5% FTE
Serve on Department, College and University committees; actively participate in local, state, and national public health organizations and professional associations; and contribute actively to community engagement.
The creation, dissemination and translation of knowledge through collaborative research; teaching and advising graduate students; and active engagement in professional and community service.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
Minimum Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in public health, the social and behavioral sciences, or a related degree.
Two years of continuous and productive accomplishment as an Assistant Professor at an accredited university in public health or the social behavioral sciences, or equivalent experience in a non-academic public health related setting.
A record of excellence in teaching or training in a university environment or in a non-academic public health related setting, including a clearly defined teaching philosophy.
Record of excellence in research applying social and behavioral approaches to focus areas such as HIV, malaria, arboviruses, or other infectious diseases, as exemplified by a continued record of collaborative research and scholarship (e.g., peer-reviewed publications, local/state/national presentations).
Record of substantial contribution of service to a university, or in a non-academic public health related setting, and to the field, profession, and community as appropriate to the mission and goals of the organization.
Record of collegiality and participation as a citizen of a university or a non-academic public health related setting.
PREFERRED:
Preferred Qualifications:
Social behavioral doctoral degree in public health, medical anthropology, clinical or social psychology, social/behavioral epidemiology, or medical sociology.
Established record in master's, doctoral, or post-doctoral level training, with a record of participation on and as major professor for thesis and/or dissertation committees, or equivalent training.
Record of innovative teaching in an academic and/or practice environment.
Leadership in professional or scientific organizations.
Demonstrated commitment to translational research directly pertinent to the control and prevention of infectious diseases of local and/or global importance.
Demonstrated ability to work with multiple researchers in an interdisciplinary environment.
Current research funding from competitive extramural sources sufficient to begin to cover 50% of annual salary and benefits. Sustained record of obtaining extramural research funding through competitive processes, with past or current principal investigator status on national level research grants, preferably in the area of infectious diseases.
Experience in practical applications of the candidates background to public health practice.
