Reliability Engineer (Maintenance)
POSITION SUMMARY:
This position will support the Mont Belvieu Complex and serves as a knowledgeable source of equipment within the facility. The individual will work closely with the maintenance department, operations, and process engineering personnel to provide technical input on equipment repairs, improvements, and troubleshooting efforts. This position also plays a key role in continuous improvement to better ensure overall mechanical integrity, facility safety, and equipment reliability. The engineer serves a “hands-on” role working alongside and supporting process and facilities technicians as needed. This role is essential to the operation and reliability of Targa's entire value chain.
JOB FUNCTIONS AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Technical support for daily operations and maintenance activities
· Support of rotating and stationary equipment field repairs
· Possess knowledge of codes, standards, and regulations related to refining, petrochemical, or midstream energy business
· Provide technical support to engineering projects team on capital projects
· Develop equipment repair work scopes
· Perform initial equipment troubleshooting with maintenance and/or operations
· Perform data collection for failure analyses
· Review existing equipment spare parts and PM plans for modifications
· MOC lead for field changes
· Provides oversight to fixed and rotating equipment installation, troubleshooting, repair, and startup activities.
· Recommend reliability or optimization projects to respective teams
· Assist in developing and implementing inspection programs (mechanical and metallurgical) to maximize the on-stream time of major equipment.
· Ability to follow and adhere to all applicable safety regulations including, but not limited to, Targa's processes and procedures, Site Specific Rules, State and Federal regulations.
· Auditory attention and hearing sensitivity is required, as candidates must possess the ability to distinguish various sounds that serve as key maintenance and safety indicators
· Other duties as assigned
MINIMUM ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
· Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or an Equivalent Engineering Degree from a 4-year accredited University
· Minimum 3-5 years of experience in the refining, petrochemical, or midstream process industries
· Proficient in Microsoft Office Products, including Work and Excel
· Ability to interface effectively with all levels within the company as well as organizations outside the company
· Valid driver license required
· Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines
· Interpersonal communication skills are required to interface with all affected crafts, personnel, contractors, and customers
· Ability to work self-sufficiently given direction and resources
· Ability to think critically, solve problems independently and exercise excellent judgment and logic
· Regular and reliable attendance is required
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
· 5-10 years of experience in the refining, petrochemical, or midstream process industries
· Knowledge of applicable industry codes, including API 510, API 570, API 610, API 618, and B31.3
· Strong knowledge of PSM/PHA methodologies and best practices
· Familiarity with one or more formal root cause analysis methodologies
· Experience with Microsoft Project
· Experience with Power BI
· Experience with Maximo or other computerized maintenance management system
· Experience with steam generation systems desired
· Experience with pumps, steam turbines, and reciprocating & centrifugal compressors
· Experience with heat exchangers, piping systems, tanks, and process vessels
· Ability to read P&IDs efficiently. Ability to read isometric drawings of both piping systems and pressure vessels.
· Possess or ability to require training in metallurgy.
· Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to act as a resource for providing customer service in a courteous manner and work effectively with diverse groups of people at various levels within an organization. Writing skills sufficient to compose and edit a variety of documents using correct spelling, grammar, and punctuation, with the ability to pay close attention to detail and proofread work carefully.
· Ability to work accurately, with interruptions, to meet deadlines.
· Ability to work in a flexible way that allows for changes in assignments and priorities depending upon identified needs of the unit.
· Good organizational, time management, customer service and problem-solving skills and the ability to work accurately and meet deadlines with frequent interruptions. Organizational skills sufficient to prioritize work and complete assignments accurately, either independently or as part of a team, under the pressure of completing deadlines with frequent interruptions. Ability to work autonomously following directions, policies, or procedures. Ability to use analytical and decision-making skills to recommend options and resolve problems in a variety of contexts.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
· Ability to lift, push, and pull 50 pounds
· Ability to work in changing climate conditions and a plant environment
· Able to work in close quarters: i.e., work while kneeling, squatting, sitting, climbing, and standing.
· Follow and adhere to all applicable Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) guidelines (ex: eye protection, footwear, FRC).
· The employee frequently is required to stand, walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms.
