ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The mission of the Office of Clinical Research (OCR) is to provide faculty with resources, information and expertise in clinical research to advance the science of healthcare. The OCR facilitates the process of conducting clinical research, from inception through completion, with the ultimate goal of delivering state of the art healthcare services to the community in the Greater Tampa Bay area and beyond. We are committed to streamlining procedures and enhancing services for clinical investigators and research staff, affiliate partners, extramural sponsors and research volunteers. The strategic services, education and training, and comprehensive review processes provided by the OCR are designed to foster research teams who are benchmarking the next generation standard of care.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director, the Clinical Research Billing Analyst will be responsible for ensuring research-related services are billed correctly and in compliance with federal regulations and institutional policies. This role involves reviewing the research billing queue in EPIC and research visits in the Clinical Trail Management System (CTMS), analyzing clinical trial documents such as Coverage Analyses and Clinical Trial Agreements, and collaborating with multiple teams to ensure accurate billing for clinical trials.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Review and monitor the research billing queue in EPIC to ensure services related to clinical trials are correctly adjudicated, billed accurately, and in compliance with the coverage analysis, clinical trial agreement (CTA), and study protocol.
Ensure all billing practices align with institutional guidelines, Medicare Coverage Analysis (MCA), federal regulations, and payer requirements for clinical trials.
Read and interpret clinical trial agreements, study protocols, and coverage analyses to determine the appropriate billing path for services provided during a study.
Efficiently navigate the clinical trial management system to verify study details and track study-related billing and milestones.
Participate in internal and external audits and generate reports related to billing compliance and research activities.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
Bachelor's degree in health administration, clinical research, or related field. At least 2 years of experience in clinical research or healthcare billing. Familiarity with EPIC or similar electronic health records systems. Ability to read and understand clinical trial agreements, coverage analysis, and research protocols. Strong knowledge of federal regulations governing clinical trial billing, including CMS guidelines. Preferred: Experience in health billing and coding (CPC certification or similar). Proficiency in navigating clinical trial management systems (CTMS) and ensuring study billing compliance. Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.

Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.
