ORGANIZATIONAL SUMMARY:
The Institute for School-Community Partnerships, Integrated Services, and Child Mental Health and Educational Policy (ISCP), which is part of the College of Education, envisions that all schools in the state of Florida and nationally will have the capacity to provide a safe, effective, and efficient environment to continuously improve the academic, social, and emotional growth of all students and to actively engage families and communities in education. The ISCP's nearly $23 million budget is derived from grants from federal, state, and private sources. It is the mission of the ISCP to implement and evaluate research-based and innovative practices in school and community settings. This is accomplished through (a) training, technical assistance, and support to key partners; (b) community-engaged research and program evaluation to inform key partners' decision making; (c) the development of research and evidence-based documents, tools, and resources to support implementation and evaluation activities; and (d) supporting the infrastructure and capacity of key partners to implement and evaluate federal and state educational policy.
POSITION SUMMARY:
Support district Local Assistive Technology Specialist in building knowledge, skills, and implementation of AT/AIM/UDL best practices within an MTSS framework. Collaborate with Problem Solving/RtI and other IDEA funded state project staff to provide professional learning, coaching, modeling, demonstrations, technical assistance, and support for the provision of assistive technology (AT), instructional technology (IT), universal design for learning (UDL), accessible instructional materials (AIM), and virtual instruction/assessment (VI/A) within a problem solving framework.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
Experience in the use of assistive and instructional technology for students with disabilities in an educational setting; evidence of highly effective presentation and professional learning implementation skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Travel required. - Monthly travel required to support districts in the state and other DOE initiatives.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support district Local Assistive Technology Specialist in building knowledge, skills, and implementation and support for the provision of assistive technology (AT), instructional technology (IT), universal design for learning (UDL), accessible instructional materials (AIM), and virtual instruction/assessment (VI/A) within a problem-solving framework.
Conduct regional meetings with IDEA state funded project staff, LATS/RLATS, and teachers on the provision and support of professional development and regional/local activities to strengthen school and district capacity in the use of AT, IT, UDL, AIM, and VI/A within a problem-solving framework to improve the effectiveness of instruction.
Support the operation of regional AT/UDL loan library to include the identification of appropriate equipment, materials, and resources for loan, as well as data collection on use and impact on student achievement outcomes.
Maintain current knowledge of research and innovations in the areas of AT, IT, AIM, UDL and VI/A to inform project work statewide and dissemination to stakeholders.
Collaborate with Problem Solving/RtI and other IDEA funded state project staff to identify, evaluate, and/or develop professional learning modules, and/or materials/resources on AT, IT, UDL, AIM, and VI/A within a problem-solving framework to strengthen district capacity to deliver effective instruction to at-risk and accelerated students and students with disabilities.
Travel to all assigned national, state, regional, and local project activities. Including hands-on technology demonstrations labs/expos.
Maintain and facilitate the use of online virtual meeting spaces and virtual 3D immersive environments for the delivery of professional learning, coaching, modeling, demonstration, technical assistance, and support activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:
MINIMUM:
This position requires a Bachelor's degree in Communication, Education, Adult Education, or equivalent field with one year of experience in a professional training position; or a Master's degree in the same field.
PREFERRED:
Bachelor's degree and a minimum of five years of experience in the use of assistive and instructional technology for students with disabilities in an educational setting; evidence of highly effective presentation and professional learning implementation skills; excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Master's degree in Technology, Communication, Education, or a related field; experience in the us of AT, IT, UDL, AIM, and VI/A for students with disabilities; experience in assessing student skills using a variety of formal and informal assessment tools; ability to facilitate groups of educators through the change process to achieve consensus; familiarity with policies and operation of PK-12 schools in the state of Florida.
Preference will be given to applicants with a background in Speech & Language Pathology, Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy or individuals with Assistive Technology Professional (ATP) certification.
SPECIAL SKILLS/TRAINING:
Experience using assistive technologies within educational settings.
