Network Engineer (Finance)
RESPONSIBILITY LEVEL:
Implements strategies to achieve the goals for the organization and supports enterprise voice, video and data services that align with the Company's business and IT objectives. Implements, revises, and sustains policies, procedures and programs. Typically works on projects and initiatives that span 3 - 12 months.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES:
1. Design, implement, and maintain highly available, scalable, and secure network infrastructures—on-premises and in the cloud—while leveraging automation tools and adhering to industry best practices.
2. Integrate advanced security controls and Zero Trust principles into new and existing network architectures, ensuring compliance with organizational and industry standards during IT transitions and upgrades.
3. Deploy, configure, and proactively monitor network hardware, software, and services to ensure optimal performance, availability, and adherence to organizational policies.
4. Continuously track network performance using modern monitoring and analytics tools; recommend and implement improvements to enhance capacity, scalability, and resilience. Stay informed of industry trends and emerging technologies to advise on infrastructure evolution.
5. Develop and maintain network automation processes to streamline deployments, configuration changes, and monitoring tasks; regularly evaluate their effectiveness and optimize as needed.
6. Provide technical mentorship and training to peers and other team members, fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional development.
7. Champion operational security by identifying vulnerabilities, evaluating security controls, and collaborating with security teams to enhance threat detection and incident response.
8. Create and maintain comprehensive network diagrams, configuration notes, and operational runbooks to ensure clarity and accuracy.
9. Work closely with third-party vendors, service providers, and cross-functional teams to ensure seamless network operations, timely support, and issue resolution.
10. Act as a Tier 2 and 3 escalation resource for complex network and security incidents, providing advanced troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and remediation.
11. Participate in a rotating on-call schedule to provide after-hours support and coordinate off-peak maintenance activities.
12. Project and Change Management: Effectively plans and manages own work to reliably complete routine job responsibilities and special assignments. May serve as a team member or subject matter expert on formal projects or within the department. Effectively engages in change affecting her/him, communicating appropriately with supervisor. Follows through on learning, skill building, and practice necessary to adapt to change.
13. Problem Solving: Light supervision; works independently. Periodic review of work by manager or senior coworker. Solves problems of moderate to advanced complexity; able to identify root cause, interpret data and resolve issues.
14. Technical Skill: Understands and applies professional principles and skills within area of specialization to modify processes to resolve situations.
15. Community Engagement: Champions Goodwill's community engagement initiatives and serves as an ambassador for Goodwill in the wider community.
16. Responsible for completing other duties/responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
1. Two years of college education or experience equivalency, and a minimum of 3 years' experience.
2. CCNA or equivalent required.
3. CCNP, Aruba ACMA (or higher), Fortinet NSE certifications are a plus.
4. Expert-level knowledge experience designing, implementing, and supporting next-generation firewalls (Fortinet), Aruba Wireless solutions, and related network security methodologies.
5. Proven expertise in Cisco VoIP (SIP), data center switching, and load balancing to ensure optimal performance and uptime.
6. Proficiency with modern network monitoring tools (e.g., PRTG, FortiAnalyzer, Aruba Central).
7. Demonstrated knowledge of regulatory standards (e.g., PCI, HIPAA, NIST) and best practices for network security hardening, configuration management, and ongoing compliance.
8. Experience working in hybrid cloud environments (AWS, Azure) is strongly preferred. Hands-on experience with Switching (Capacity Planning, STP, LACP, and VLAN's), Routing (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), WAN Technologies (MPLS, VPLS, VPN, and SD-WAN) and Security (Fortinet Firewalls, IPS/IDS, Zero Trust Frameworks, or other next-gen security tools).
9. Demonstrated ability to systematically approach complex issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement effective solutions in time-sensitive scenarios.
10. Ability to work independently with minimal guidance, while effectively collaborating with cross-functional teams. Strong communication skills to clearly document solutions and share knowledge.
11. Ability to occasionally work off-hours for scheduled maintenance or critical incidents.
12. Experience with SD-WAN design, deployment, and support. Familiarity with emerging technologies (e.g., SASE, Wi-Fi 6/6E, Zero Trust) or automation frameworks (Ansible, Terraform, Python) is a plus.

PHYSICAL/SENSORY DEMANDS:
Remain stationary for extended periods of time, repetitive use of hands, vision required to develop the network, voice architecture, design, and implementation.
When determining placement within the salary range for this position Goodwill Greater Milwaukee & Chicago considers education, experience, internal equity, market demands and other qualifying criteria. It is not typical for individuals to be hired at or near the top of the rage for their role and compensation decisions are dependent on facts and circumstances of each case.
