Automation Specialist (R&D)
New England Biolabs (NEB) is seeking an energetic and highly motivated individual to join the Production Department. Reporting to the Automation Supervisor and in close collaboration with members of the Plating Team, the individual in this position will be responsible for the execution of automated workflows on liquid handling instruments to dispense NEB reagents into automation-ready 96-well plated formats.
Primary Responsibilities:
Operate liquid handling instruments to dispense reagents into 96-well plates and microtubes according to established protocols.
Apply product-specific labeling using a variety of instruments and label-generating software.
Perform final sealing, inspection, and transfer of filled products to Packaging teams.
Complete production orders within the required timelines while maintaining flexibility to adjust to fluctuating business needs.
Perform all required transactions and inventory movements in SAP using handheld scanners and Fiori.
Maintain accurate inventory of raw materials and consumables, ensuring inventory is appropriately stocked for scheduled production runs.
Perform routine instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
B.S. in Engineering, Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or related field plus 2 years' experience; in the absence of a degree a minimum of 5 years relevant experience is required.
Experience working with enzymes and nucleic acids.
Experience operating automated liquid handling systems. Preferred systems include but are not limited to: Perkin Elmer/ Revvity (Janus), SPT Labtech (Dragonfly), Tecan, Agilent, and/or Beckman Coulter (Biomek Fx).
Experience as a field service technician, automation engineer, application scientist, or equivalent.
Experience working in, or with, molecular biology laboratories.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues that arise with liquid handling equipment and other general laboratory equipment.
Good laboratory and organizational skills; the ability to work independently and efficiently is essential.
Strong creative thinking and problem-solving skills with a strong attention to detail and a professional attitude.
Experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP.
