Epidemiologist (Mycotic Diseases) - Hybrid (Biotech)
SUMMARY
Under the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity (ELC) cooperative agreement, Heluna Health and the Infectious Diseases Branch (IDB) of the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) are recruiting for an Epidemiologist to be part of the Mycotic Diseases team.
The Epidemiologist will work with staff in the California Department of Public Health Infectious Diseases Branch (IDB), to improve coordination and surveillance for mycotic diseases, including coccidioidomycosis (Valley fever), histoplasmosis, and aspergillosis. The Epidemiologist's primary responsibility would be to support the Senior Mycotic Diseases Epidemiologist in conducting routine and enhanced surveillance for Valley fever, a respiratory fungal disease endemic in California which has been increasing dramatically in recent years. Additional responsibilities would be to analyze existing statewide datasets to better describe Valley fever and other mycotic diseases in California. As needed, this position may also support other mycotic disease activities such as assisting with outbreak investigation and outreach efforts.
This position's major responsibilities would be to clean, analyze, and summarize data; to assist with development of protocols and data collection tools; to conduct patient interviews; to communicate data and public health messages orally and in writing; to assist with public outreach (particularly to high risk groups for Valley fever such as outdoor workers [e.g., construction, agriculture] and people of certain racial ethnic backgrounds [e.g., African American/Black, Hispanic/Latino, American Indian]); and to assist with efforts to increase healthcare provider awareness (particularly among primary care, urgent care, and emergency room providers).
The salary range for this position is $79,999.88 to $93,000.38 annually depending on experience/qualifications.
This full-time, temporary position is grant funded through 07/31/2025 but may be extended if funding is available.
