• Manages, as appropriate, the operational, personnel, and financial aspects of the burn program.
• Participates in strategic planning for the Burn Program in alignment with the organization's mission. Coordinates new ventures that may serve to increase volume and expand relationships.
• Serves as a technical expert in Burn program development.
• Serves as a liaison to administration.
• Represents the burn program on various hospital, community, regional, state and national committees to enhance and foster optimal burn patient management.
• Prepares appropriate reports and statistics and conducts surveys in order to evaluate departmental operational and fiscal performance.
• Ability to handle politically sensitive issues, anticipate problems and issues, build and gain consensus, lead and work with multidisciplinary teams, and effectively communicate strategies, plans and financial results.
• Collaborates with marketing teams to develop content and promote community awareness of the burn center.
Education:
• Coordinates intra-facility and regional professional staff development related to burn care.
• Directs community burn education and prevention programs.
• Conducts on-going learning needs assessments of nursing staff.
• Plans, implements and evaluates educational programs for patients, families and staff.
• Coordinates and instructs UC Health ABLS courses
Quality & Performance Improvement:
• Ensures that the highest quality of care is consistently delivered to the patients at all times and by all personnel.
• In collaboration with the registry supervisor, oversees the burn registries for data validity and reliability.
• Provides oversight and leadership for all PI activities related to the Burn Program.
• Identify opportunities for improvement along the continuum of care, take the initiative to identify gaps/contributing factors, and work collaboratively with stakeholders to devise a plan of action, monitoring for effectiveness over time.
• Monitors clinical processes, outcomes and system issues related to the quality of care provided to burn patients.
• Develop quality filters & audits.
• Coordinate and participate in case reviews.
• Assists in development of the registry to facilitate performance improvement activities, trend reports, and research while protecting confidentiality
• Involvement in research projects, analysis, and distribution of findings.
• Assures loop closure and ensures documentation of performance improvement.
Clinical Activities:
• Plans and implements clinical protocols and practice management guidelines.
• Monitors care for in-hospital burn patients.
• Serve as an internal resource for staff in all departments, and act as an extended liaison for emergency medical services agencies
Outreach:
• Oversees all UC Health burn prevention activities
• Serves as an internal resource for staff in all departments.
• Acts as an extended liaison for emergency medical services agencies.
• Participates in the development of burn care systems at the community, state and/or national levels.
• Oversees the Survivors Offering Assistance in Recovery (SOAR) Program
Program Evaluations:
• Re-evaluates and adjusts programs annually to assure that services are appropriate, cost-effective, and consistently meet the needs of the patient population, institution, and ABA Burn Center requirements.
• Provide annual progress reports with goals, objectives, evaluations, and recommendations.
