Associate Dean, College of Human Sciences and Humanities (Finance)

The Associate Dean is responsible for supervision of the College of Human Sciences and Humanities (HSH) activities as assigned by the Dean, particularly all student-related services including; admissions, development of the course schedule, registration and advisement. Supervises academic planning: advising, review and approval, curriculum, catalog, course inventory, fees, evaluations, files, and syllabi. Responsible for academic honesty issues, grade appeals and complaints, and adjunct and teaching assistant appointments. Assists the Dean with strategic planning, coordinating program approval processes, accreditation activities, and student recruitment efforts.
Duties:
Oversees course schedule, course inventory, articulation with community colleges, development of new programs, and Catalog.
Responsible for program reviews, course evaluations, assessment, accreditation, SACS and THECB compliance.
Provides guidance and leadership to Admissions, the Registrar, the HSH Advising office, student CPS support, and coordinates activities with committees.
Oversees college compliance with deadlines (e.g., syllabus submission, textbook submission, training, grade entry, admissions, curriculum, etc.).
Provides support to faculty and opportunities for development and performs related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in any discipline within the college's academic portfolio.
Demonstrated progressive experience in knowledge area with considerable supervisory experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Leadership experience within a unit of Academic Affairs.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Understanding of curricular and assessment processes (e.g., SACSCOC, internal curriculum approval, etc.).
Working knowledge of the Faculty Handbook, Catalogs, UH System, and UHCL policies.
Understanding of course scheduling, admissions, enrollment, probation/suspension processes, and the roles of various offices in each of these.
Skills in Microsoft Office, PeopleSoft, Navigate, Curriculog, Slate, Canvas, and similar software.
Interpersonal skills in leading individuals, committees, or other stakeholder groups toward college and university goals.
Organizational skills to manage multiple tasks with different deadlines within an evolving environment that requires prioritization.
Ability to lead strategic planning and implementation efforts for college activities, including supervision of staff, faculty committees, and other efforts.
Ability to address emergent situations (e.g., conflicts, concerns, or struggles) through direct action, mentoring, or supporting engagement with other offices.
Ability to support faculty, staff, and students with all software used by the college.
Ability to identify needs within the college and implement solutions to address those needs, as well as handle communications around these.
